Judy was the daughter of James and Marian (Cate) Boal. Younger sister to John Boal, Class of 1958 and older sister to twins, Jerry and Jeffrey.

She first married Arthur L. Bortz in June 1964 in Monterey, Califoria,and they divorced in June 1976. In 1984 she married Henry B. Allen in Alameda, California.
