John King
1945 - 2009

John was born in the Bronx, New York where he lived with his parents, grandparents, and sister, Janet, in a large apartment. His mother was one of 7 children, so growing up John had a large extended family. At the age of 10 John’s father passed away from cancer. A year later his mother decided to take her children to California to visit her sister. They loved California and decided to make Lennox their permanent home.

After graduating high school John went to work to help support his family. His mother had been sick for a few years and passed away when John was 20. After her death Uncle Sam drafted John into the army where he served with the 101st Airborne Division. While in the army John completed a one year tour of duty in Viet Nam, returning home on September 25, 1969. Using the GI Bill John started going to college to complete his life long dream of becoming an electronics engineer.

John met his future wife, Dolores, at a New Year’s Eve party in December, 1969. After dating for two years they were married on October 2, 1971. John was a man who loved children and in turn they loved him, so he and Dolores created a wonderful family with three beautiful children; Kevin, Tony and Alison. John and Dolores had been married 37 years at the time of his death.

As a young man John was not able to play high school sports because he had to work to help support his family so he did the next best thing…watch Sports. He memorized the stats of athletes and teams and loved nothing better than to talk “sports” with his friends. John was involved in all of his children’s athletic pursuits such as swimming, cross country, soccer, and baseball. He spent many years coaching both baseball and soccer and remained close to his kids throughout the years.

John was a people person who loved to help whenever he could. If there was anything that needed to be done, John would be there in an instant to do what he could. Anyone who met John was his friend, whether or not they wanted to be, that was just the kind of person he was.

John is survived by his wife Dolores; their three children, Alison, Kevin, and Tony; his Mother-in-Law Lillian; three cats Baby, Tizzy, and Ginger; and a dog, Babe. He was known to many and will be missed by all.

John King 1945 - 2009 Web  [2/03/09]

Hello all,
This is Kevin, John's son. I am writing this email because my dad created a list of people that he updated about his battle with cancer, and some of the contacts have just an email address without a name. Undoubtedly my father knew each and every one of you so the names were not needed. I hate to do this in the form of an email, but without contact info I have no other alternative. John passed away on Sunday Janurary 18, 2009 at 6:45 PM after a long and hard fight. He was surrounded by his family and close friends, and it was a peaceful end to a long and happy life. The family knows that if John was keeping you updated then he would have wanted you all to know. A celebration of his life will be held on Friday Janurary 23, 2009 at the Warm Springs Community Church at 1:00pm. The address of the church is 48989 Milmont Drive, Fremont Ca, 94538. If you need more information or wish to contact the family, email Kevin King.  Please feel free to do so. On behalf of the whole family we thank you for all of your support for both my father and us during this trying time.
