Judy McGuire

BIO

Grew up in Lennox on 111th Street. Went to Larch Avenue Elementary, Felton Jr. H., and Lennox HS (Class of 68). We moved to Iowa between my sophomore and Jr year...yes, it was the pits. Completed HS and two years of college. Married twice, two children, a daughter and a son. My son died in 2006 at age 27. Birthing my children were my highest points, among many; the death of my son the lowest. I could have gone down the rabbit hole on that one, but I chose to swim instead. I went back to school; graduated from the University of Montana, in Missoula, MT, with a BA in Social Work in 2007. I worked in Hospice work, first as a volunteer while in school, and then as the Volunteer Coordinator from 2008 to 2014. Loved my work. While still in good health, it was then I decided to fulfill my teenage dream of being a Peace Corps Volunteer, (remember that JFK speech!) where I currently live in Guyana, South America, since April 2015. I work at Mahaica Children's Home, a home for abused and neglected girls...I LOVE my job and I LOVE my girls! [10/30/16]

I moved away from Lennox at the end of my sophomore year and I graduated HS in Iowa. I got married in 1970 and moved to Washington state; got remarried in 1975 and moved to Idaho. Stayed in Idaho (except for a one year excursion to South Carolina) from 1975-2003. After being a domestic peace corps volunteer (AmeriCorps Promise Fellow)in 2002-03, I decided to go back to school and get my social work degree. I moved to Missoula, Montana, enrolled in the social work department at the University of Montana in 2004 and graduated in 2007. I work in the hospice field, working as the volunteer coordinator for Partners Hospice & Palliative Care Services. I enjoy what I do. I have one daughter (33) and one granddaughter (3). My nickname in HS was Gidget My favorite teacher was Mr.D. (DeLaRocha) English My favorite subject was P.E. My good friend was/is Yumi (Chai) Bentley. [12/3/09]
