Harlan Dale Buskeness was born on November 4, 1958, in Jamestown, North Dakota to Gorden Henry Buskeness and Darlene Wentz. He had five brothers and four sisters. He died on February 21, 1993, in Hawthorne, California, at the age of 34, from a brain aneurysm while working underneath his car in his driveway. He was found later that evening by his girlfriend when she stopped by to see him.

Harlan was buried in Redondo Beach.
